Artists' Box Hoatzin - Opisthocomus Cristatus

This artists' box was made for 2009s celebration of the 200-year anniversary of Darwin's birth and the 150-year anniversary of 'the Origin of Species'.

It utilises the Victorian style of 'show and tell' scientific illustration and uses traditional printing process with a modern twist. I've incorporated laser etching with collagraph and acid etching to create a new for old aesthetic. I've made use of the 'golden rectangle' for my image plates to imply natural unity.

The hoatzin is one of the worlds' most evident links between dinosaurs and birds still living today and has a taxonomy that is still a mystery and open debate to geneticists.

This box was made in April 2009 as an edition of 15. The box is 19 by 15 by 3cm and contains an artists statement, 1
collagraph, 3 etchings and 2 intaglio flexoplate printed labels. Each box is £50 and there are 12 remaining. The large collagraph print is also for sale separately at £40, unfolded with a small intaglio printed flexoplate label.
